Dorothy Cowie School of Dancing (“DC”, “we”, “us” or “our”) has been part of Sydney’s Inner West dance community since 1937. We operate studios in Croydon, Drummoyne and Burwood, and we take the privacy of our DC family — students, parents, guardians and website visitors — seriously.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and disclose personal information through our website, and how you can access, correct or ask questions about your information. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).

Student and family information — such as a child’s name, date of birth, dance experience, class preferences, and any relevant medical or health information you choose to provide (for example, allergies or injuries), when enrolling online.
Payment information — such as billing details and payment card information, when you make a payment or enrol online. Payments are processed securely by our third-party payment provider; we do not store full card details on our own systems.
Newsletter and marketing details — such as your name and email address, when you subscribe to our mailing list.
Technical and usage information — such as your IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and how you interact with our website, collected automatically through cookies and analytics tools.

2. How we collect personal information

We collect personal information directly from you when you:

Maintaining student safety and wellbeing, including holding relevant medical or emergency contact information for class and event purposes;

5. Disclosure of personal information

We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose personal information to:

Service providers who help us run our business, such as payment processors, email and SMS communication platforms, and website hosting providers;
Analytics and advertising platforms, such as Google and Meta, in connection with website analytics and online advertising (see Section 6);
Government or regulatory bodies, where required or authorised by law;
Professional advisers, such as our accountant or legal advisers, where reasonably necessary.

Some of our service providers (such as Google and Meta) may store or process information on servers located outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure these providers handle personal information in a manner consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

5. Children’s information

As a dance school, we hold information about children and students. This information is generally provided to us by a parent or guardian through our enrolment and contact processes, and is used solely for the purposes of providing dance classes, managing enrolments, and ensuring student safety and wellbeing. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children through our website without the involvement of a parent or guardian.

Google Analytics — to help us understand website traffic and visitor behaviour, such as which pages are viewed and how visitors found our site.
Meta (Facebook) Pixel — to help us understand the effectiveness of our Facebook and Instagram advertising, and to deliver more relevant ads to people who may be interested in DC.
